The National Police of Rwanda has announced the temporary closure of the Kigali–Gakenke road after a truck accident occurred in Buranga, Rusagara Cell, Gakenke Sector, Gakenke District.

According to the police statement issued via their official X (formerly Twitter) platform, the truck crash has rendered the road impassable, urging travelers to remain patient as clearance efforts are underway.

“We kindly ask all road users to be patient while the recovery operation to remove the truck is ongoing,” the statement read.

This is not the first time a truck accident has disrupted transport on this route. Three years ago, a similar incident near the former Gakenke District headquarters in Nemba Sector claimed the lives of both the driver and the vehicle’s assistant.

The Traffic and Road Safety Department of  Police continues to caution drivers to reduce speed, particularly in accident-prone areas like Buranga.

Buranga has become notorious for frequent road accidents, raising ongoing safety concerns for commuters and authorities alike.
