The United States of America and Kenya announced that next month they will start a new trade agreement aimed at developing the economies of both countries.
President William Ruto of Kenya was on a visit to Washington at the US President’s House, where the country promised him new cooperation in technology, security and forgiveness of Kenya’s debts to the United States of America.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo urged officials to move forward after the two sides reached an agreement this week.
He urged all those present to join the program without any hesitation and start making trade agreements with Kenya. He said that six people from the two countries will meet in Mombasa, Kenya from the 3rd to the 7th of next month to discuss cooperation strategies in terms of trade and investment.
The agreement that was signed on Friday includes the one that Kenya signed with Microsoft to build the company’s data warehouse. The storage facility to be built in Naivasha, Kenya will be equal to one gigawatt worth billions of US dollars.
The US presidency said it will give Kenya the option to move its data and services to a secure location.
Microsoft CEO Brad Smith said the partnership will bring internet access to 20 million people in Kenya next year.
