This year’s edition of the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games will be hosted in Huye district, not Kigali as had earlier been scheduled.
It will be the second time the Rwanda Southern Province city is hosting the regional games after having hosted the week-long sports competition in 2015 for the first time.
Initially, FEASSSA executive had passed Kigali as the host but inside sources indicated that several Rwanda sports facilities in Kigali, including national Amahoro and Nyamirambo stadiums, are currently under overhaul.
According to the Turkish construction company SUMMA JV Rwanda, Amahoro stadium will be complete in June.
FEASSSA president Justus Mugisha has confirmed that Huye has passed the tests to host the competition that is scheduled for September this year.
“After looking at different cities Musanze and Rubavu, we have zeroed on Huye because of the facilities there, so Huye will be the place to go for this year’s game” Mugisha explained.
Rwanda was named the 2023 FEASSSA hosts as a result of Burundi declining the offer as they failed to beat the deadline for confirmation of acceptance.
Rwanda last hosted the rotational regional game that pits schools teams from the six member nations of South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Uganda with the 2018 edition in Musanze district.
