A former Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) journalist has been chosen to become the next King of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom, following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma was endorsed by the 21-member Babiito royal clan succession committee at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal, according to Ugandan media reports.
Kijanangoma, a veteran journalist, previously worked for Rwanda’s state broadcaster before returning to Uganda, where he has worked as a news anchor and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
His selection brings to an end days of uncertainty and competing claims over who would succeed King Oyo, who died aged 34 in the United States on August 27 after receiving treatment for cancer.
