Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) has confirmed that 8 countries including host Rwanda will take part in the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group IV tournament.

The four-day tournament in Kigali from July 26-29 will see young tennis players from eight countries including Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique and Nigeria.

According to the organizers, the top two teams will be promoted to Group III while the last two will be relegated to Group V.

Meanwhile, Rwanda has revealed its squad, under head coach Dieudonne Habiyambere. The squad includes Etienne Niyigena, Ernest Habiyambere, Junior Hakizumwami, Joshua Muhire and Claude Ishimwe.

During the 2022 edition, Rwanda crowned Togo the champions after the hosts won.

Rwanda has competed in the Davis Cup since 2001. The country’s most impressive performance was in 2019 when they earned a Group III promotion after winning the Group IV tournament in Brazzaville.

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from over 140 competing countries.
