“Staying at Ma Campagne was a delightful escape! The wooden cottages are cozy, and the lake views are breathtaking,” shared a guest from Burundi on social media. “The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the traditional dances added a unique touch to our stay.”
Kirenga notes that guests can enjoy complimentary activities like kayaking and paddling. The resort employs over 40 staff members across various departments, ensuring they receive benefits like health insurance and maternity leave. Staff members living on the property are provided with accommodation, financial support, and free meals.
The resort prides itself on strong community ties, funding health insurance for nearby residents and covering school fees for vulnerable children. Local youth often entertain guests through traditional dance performances, enhancing the cultural experience.
“Ma Campagne is a wonderful place to escape from Kigali,” Kirenga notes. “We plan to expand the resort, offering more activities, including conference halls for larger events. We aim to increase the number of rooms facing the lake, as well as add a modern nightclub, basketball court, beach volley and mini football pitch.”
Despite these exciting developments, Kirenga acknowledges challenges in the hospitality industry, particularly the impact of epidemics like COVID-19 and Marburg, which limits guest numbers.
The idea for this resort came from proprietor Jean Pierre Mubiligi, who first visited Lake Muhazi with friends in 1996. He returned to the lake’s shores, bought land, and began construction in 2017.
Mubiligi shares that the vision behind the resort is to provide a welcoming space where guests and families can come together to relax and enjoy quality time in a stunning natural environment. It’s a place designed for everyone to connect with nature, unwind, and create lasting memories with loved ones while at the same time offering employment to the community.
