Dr. Frank Habineza, presidential candidate for the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, has called for the resignation of the Ngoma District Council.
Dr. Frank Habineza told a press conference on July 2, 2024 that the only district where his party had a deep concern was in Ngoma, where they encountered difficulties on the third day of the campaign, on June 24, 024..
According to him, the campaign started well, only Ngoma District disappointed us, but otherwise everything went smoothly, and nothing bothered us. They deliberately ignored all instructions from the National Electoral Commission, organized other activities to promote the candidates of the FPR-Inkotanyi, and organized meetings.”
The General Secretary of the Green Party, Hon Jean Claude Ntezimana, who is also in charge of campaigning noted, “Where it did not go well, it was in Ngoma, where there was a combination of the two parties’ plans. A number of people came to protest near where we were, even setting up loudspeakers calling for participation in a surprise meeting, which we had requested.
Dr. Habineza said that this isn’t the first time interference has occurred in this district, and they will monitor campaign activities and elections afterward.
He said, “Ngoma District is haunted.” Not the first time! But it will not be represented here. We will follow it soon. We want the entire Council to resign,”
Apart from Ngoma District, also in Ngororero District when this party was campaigning, people were seen carrying posters of other rival political parties and even singing their songs.
At that time, Hon Ntezimana noted that it was inappropriate, but was done by individuals and not by political parties.
In general, this party explained that compared to the 2017 presidential elections, this time it has benefited. The people have become more fond of the party and attend the campaign gatherings.
Dr. Frank Habineza said, “When we greet the people, you see that they welcome us with open arms. When people tell me that we love you very much, it’s you, we will vote for you, […] it’s a very interesting thing to hear that.”
“When people come to our gatherings, they ask us what we plan to do if elected, but what is important is that our message reaches far when we explain our manifesto.”
