Former President Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 presidential election, despite the race still being too close to call. With projections showing Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris in the Electoral College, he is just four votes shy of the 270 needed to win the White House.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump said in a speech early Wednesday morning at the West Palm Beach Convention Center, surrounded by his family and campaign leaders.
Trump’s claim to victory comes after NBC News projected that he would win Pennsylvania, putting him within reach of securing the necessary Electoral College votes.
“We’re going to help our country heal,” Trump added. “We’re going to fix everything about our country. This will truly be the golden age of America.”
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris, who had been expected to address her supporters at Howard University in Washington, D.C., chose not to speak Tuesday night. She has now indicated she will address the nation later on Wednesday.
The election remains ongoing, and neither candidate has officially reached the 270 electoral votes required to win.n.
