The City of Kigali sponsored football club, AS Kigali has unveiled Congolese head coach Guy Bukasa as the new head coach.

Bukasa was appointed by the club management on Thursday, December 28, 2023, after signing a short term deal with the Peace Cup winners.

In the official statement released on the clubs official social handle Twitter now X, the club management announced “ The club has with immediate effect appointed Mr. Guy Bukasa as the head coach”

The statement went further to mention that Bukasa has a vast experience in coaching teams in Rwanda, DR-Congo, Tunisia, and Tanzania.

He now replaces  Cassa Mbungo who resigned last November due to the fact that club players refused to train because of not being paid for two months.

The club has not disclosed the details of the deal but  Rwanda Dispatch understands Bukasa will coach the team until the end of this season.

In Rwanda, the Congolese head coach coached Rayon Sport FC  and Gasogi United in 2021 and 2022 respectively before parting ways.

The Congolese  resigned as Rayon Sports coach following a 1-0 defeat to rivals APR that saw their hopes of winning the league title extinguished.

He announced his resignation to the players and staff as they arrived at the team’s hostel at Nzove in June that year.

Under Bukasa, Gasogi United finished 9th in their first ever campaign in the Rwandan top-flight football with a record of 7 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses.

Bukasa joined Gasogi in 2020 from AS Nyuki in his native Democratic Republic Congo where he served as an assistant coach for the national team.

AS Kigali currently lies third at the bottom of the Rwandan Premier League table with 15 points out of 15 games. The club is facing a financing crisis that has seen players losing morale at the pitch.
