Rwandan President Paul Kagame, received Monday, October 16, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the transition of the Republic of Gabon and head of Restoration of Institutions Committee.
The two Heads of State discussed the ongoing transition process in Gabon, the security situation on the continent and in the region of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
They also spoke about different areas of collaboration between Gabon and Rwanda.
This is General Nguema’s first visit to Kigali after being named the transitional president on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 by Leaders of the coup in Gabon.
The General seized power following disputed elections in which President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family has ruled for 55 years, had been declared winner.
Gen. Nguema’s visit to Rwanda comes after he visited the region, to meet different heads of state to seek support and improve relations with his country following the coup which was condemned by the African Union (AU) and other regional bodies.
Rwanda and Gabon have had strong bilateral ties in different sectors like agriculture and tourism.
