The 14th group of 134 refugees and asylum seekers evacuated from Libya safely arrived in Rwanda. They are from: Eritrea 64, Sudan 35, Somalia 15, Ethiopia 17, Cameroon 2, and Mali 1.

They will be accommodated in Gashora Transit Center, that hosts other evacuees who arrived before.

The Government of Rwanda, UNHCR, and the African Union set up an Emergency Transit Mechanism (ETM) to provide lifesaving protection, assistance, and long-term solutions to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers trapped in Libya through a temporary evacuation to Rwanda.

Rwanda started this program of sheltering people crossing from Libya to seek livelihood on the European continent, even though most of them drown in the Mediterranean Sea. The President Paul Kagame decided to receive them temporary in Rwanda in 2019.

From that time, Rwanda has received more than 1,600 refugees, who have been resettled in the Gashora camp in Bugesera.

More than 900 of them have found host countries, which accept them as their citizens.
