At the 11th World Government Summit in Dubai, Rwandan President Paul Kagame delivered a powerful message urging world leaders to learn from past tragedies and utilize their power to prevent future conflicts.

While not explicitly criticizing any nation, Kagame expressed strong disappointment at the lack of progress in addressing ongoing global challenges.

Throughout his interview with CNN’s Eleni Giokos, the Rwandan President emphasized the importance of learning from past events like the Rwandan genocide.

He pointed out that while lessons are often discussed, tangible action to prevent similar tragedies remains absent. He highlighted the ongoing conflicts and suffering in various regions as evidence that the world has not effectively learned from past mistakes.

Call for Collective Action

Beyond emphasizing historical lessons, Kagame stressed the need for collective action by world leaders. He challenged powerful nations to use their resources and influence more effectively to prevent and stop conflicts.

Further, he called for a shift in how power is wielded, urging leaders to prioritize peace and stability over self-interest or inaction.

Recognizing the complexities of global governance, Kagame advocated for strengthened global unity and collaboration. He specifically emphasized the importance of African nations working together and utilizing their collective resources.

He urged African countries to have a strong and unified voice on the international stage, leveraging their potential for development and global partnerships.

Impact and Discussion

Kagame’s remarks resonated with concerns about ongoing conflicts and the perceived shortcomings of international responses.

His emphasis on learning from the past and utilizing power responsibly sparked discussions about international relations, global governance, and Africa’s role in the world.
