Seven people were killed and nearly twenty others injured in the altercations that occurred on Wednesday, August 30 in Goma (North Kivu), between police and a group of followers of the Wazalendo church.
According to local sources, this clash took place in the West and North districts of the provincial capital of North Kivu.
At the initiative of the Wazalendo church, this demonstration, banned by political authorities, was organized against MONUSCO as well as agencies of the UN system.
The same sources report that heavy gunfire rang out around 3:45 a.m. in the neighborhoods: Kyeshero, Ndosho, Himbi, Katoyi, Kasika, to name just a few.
In the Kyeshero district, for example, the site of Radiotelevision Uwezo wa neno, known as Wazalendo radio of a certain pastor Efraim Bisimwa, was particularly targeted by these clashes.
On site, 6 Wazalendo (local defence) followers who spread the messages of this call for demonstrations were killed.
Among them is a woman close to Pastor Ephraim Bisimwa. Some sources indicate that this pastor was arrested by the city’s defense and security forces.
