Giancarlo Davite navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel has entered Uganda’s Pearl of Africa Rally due from May 6-8.
The Gianca crew has vast experience of the Pearl rally having participated in the event for several years.
The Ugandan round will count towards the third round of the 2022 FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) after February’s ARC Rallye Bandama and Kenya’s Equator Rally.
Karan Patel, McRae Kimathi, Hamza Anwar, Maxine Wahome and Jeremy Wahome will be representing team Kenya. All the five crews will be making their debut in Uganda.
Karan Patel will lead the charge for team Kenya as he fights to claim top slot in the ARC standings.
The Ford Fiesta R5 driver is currently second on the leaderboard with 24 points behind Zambian Gomes who candidly admitted in an interview in Naivasha that Karan is in a class of his own.
This month, Giancarlo finished in 5th place at the African Rally Championship (ARC) Equator Rally in Kenya on Sunday, April 3. In his Mitsubishi 10 RC2, the Italy-born finished the race in 02:42:19.2.
Other foreign crews taking part in the rally include Zambia’s racing couple, Leroy and Urshlla Gomes who are currently leading ARC and they will be making their second outing to Pearl rally.
Meanwhile, Jean Jean Giessen is the other Rwandan flag bear who will be racing in the two-wheel drive category while Awadin Imtiaz Din will represent Burundi in the Subaru Impreza.
Pearl rally has so far attracted a total of 36 crews.
All the last three years of Pearl rally were all won by a Kenyan; Manvir Baryan.
