The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its partnership with the Rwandan government through a range of development projects aimed at fostering economic growth and social progress.
This was highlighted during a meeting on Wednesday between Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente and Qimiao Fan, the World Bank’s Director for Rwanda, Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ngirente and Qimiao Fan discussed key projects aligned with Rwanda’s upcoming five-year development plan, with a particular focus on job creation for the youth, according to Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa.
Qimiao Fan commended Rwanda’s impressive development strides over recent years and expressed the World Bank’s readiness to support government ambitious goals. “We have contributed to Rwanda’s progress through transparency and collaboration. Our focus moving forward will be on investing in sustainable infrastructure, education, vocational training, health, social welfare, and other key sectors. It is essential for Rwanda to advance in all areas, and we are committed to supporting these efforts,” Fan remarked.
One of the notable achievements of the Rwanda-World Bank partnership is the completion of over 22,000 classrooms in 2020, which has significantly impacted the country’s education system.
Rwanda has enjoyed a strong relationship with the World Bank for 61 years, and the Rwandan government continues to value the Bank’s pivotal role in the nation’s recovery and development following the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
