The highly anticipated Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC 2024) that was scheduled for September in Kigali, Rwanda, has been canceled. This news comes after the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced the termination of its partnership with Easy Group EXP, the event organizers, by mutual agreement.
“The cancellation follows careful consideration by both parties. As a result, the “Visit Rwanda” brand will also no longer be associated with any marketing or branding related to the event,” reads part of the statement by RDB.
This decision comes as a disappointment as the VCWC 2024 promised to be a historic event. The planned tournament would have seen 150 football legends from around the world gather in Rwanda. 20 games were expected to be broadcasted to over 100 million viewers globally, alongside forums focused on peace, education, health, business, and tourism.
Footballing legends who were expected to grace the event include: German titan Oliver Kahn, a rock in goal. Ronaldinho Gaucho who ruled the pitch with magic and joy from Barcelona to Milan, and Nigerian maestro of delight, Jay Jay Okocha. And more!
The newly revamped Amahoro National Stadium was set to be the venue for the event, which was scheduled to take place from September 1st to 10th, 2024.
Efforts to reach Easy Group EXP for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
VCWC is a globally recognized platform that connects veteran athletes to promote collaboration and contributions towards sustainable development.
