Rwanda and Uganda reaffirmed their commitment to regional security and cooperation during their second “Rwanda and Uganda Cross Border Security Meeting” held on Monday, May 6th, 2024.
High-ranking officials from both countries, including Rwanda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Clementine Mukeka, and Uganda’s Head of the Department of Peace and Security, Ambassador Joshua Julius Kivuna, participated in the discussions.
The meeting served as a follow-up to the December 2023 meeting held in Kabale, Uganda, which was sanctioned by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. This latest gathering aimed to assess progress made on the measures and decisions outlined in the previous talks.
Mukeka emphasized the importance of the meeting, highlighting the historical, cultural, and economic ties that bind Rwanda and Uganda closer than mere neighbors. She stressed the shared goal of fostering peace, mutual benefit, and prosperity through enhanced cooperation across various sectors.
