Fuel prices in Rwanda have reached a historic high, crossing the Rwf 1,639 ($1.35) mark per litre.
According to the announcement from Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) on Tuesday, October 3, the rise in prices for petrol and diesel is due to the adjustments in the global oil market.
The country’s national regulator RURA, announced on its twitter handle that the new prices will take effect on October 4 .
“Pump prices for petrol have increased to Rwf 1,822 per litre up from Rwf 1,639 while diesel has increased from Rwf 1,492 per litre to Rwf 1,662” the statement reads in part.
In the last review in August, the adjustments would rarely have a difference of more than Rwf 1,632 ($0.07) , an increase of Rwf 122 put in June.
The high cost of fuel is attributed to a combination of global factors including the market forces of supply and demand, and the price of crude oil is the primary determinant of the price paid at the pump.
