Four time Tour de France Champion Chris Froome has arrived in Rwanda ahead of the 15th Tour du Rwanda Cycling Champion slated to start on Sunday February 19-26.
The Kenyan/British road racing cyclist currently rides for UCI World Team Israel–Premier will be riding for Israel Premier Tech.
Upon his arrival he said that he was happy to be in Rwanda for the first time and explained that this is his first time to Rwanda and he was happy to be here and looking forward to the race” He said.
“The team has got a very exciting project in Rwanda, the race for change project and field of dreams I have heard a lot about it but I’m really excited to be here to see this week if cycling has grown in Rwanda because I’ve heard it’s one of the leading African countries in terms of cycling infrastructure.” He noted
“I don’t know what to expect in the race, never raced here before so I’m expecting a fast and furious week of racing but less of such I’m sure there is a lot of strong local talent and I’m looking forward to getting to know some of the local guys.” He added.
The Tour de France Champion is expected to attend the official inauguration ceremony of the Field of Dreams cycling centre track sponsored by the Israel Premier Tech team for the youth in Bugesera district, Eastern Province.
