In a thrilling start to this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifying tournament, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) held off a determined Rayon Sports from Rwanda to secure a 3-2 victory at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa on Saturday.
Despite establishing a commanding 3-0 lead by the 50th minute, CBE had to withstand a fierce second-half comeback from the Rwandan side.
Senaf Wakuma opened the scoring for the home team with a brilliant solo effort, showcasing her speed and precision from the left flank. Aregash Kalsa then took center stage, netting twice before halftime, as CBE looked poised for a comfortable victory.
However, Rayon Sports turned the tide in the second half. Jeannette Ukwinkunda scored in the 72nd minute, followed by a goal from Jeanine Mukandayisenga in the 83rd minute, setting the stage for a tense finish. Despite their best efforts, Rayon Sports couldn’t find the equalizer, and CBE emerged victorious in this hard-fought encounter.
