Rwandan football giants APR FC eliminated Tanzania football giants Young African (Younga) from the 2024 Mapinduzi Cup by 3-1 in the final minutes of 90 minutes.

In a high-stakes match held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, Yanga took the lead with a goal from Jesus Moloko in the 23rd minute, thanks to a well-timed pass from Clement Mzize.

APR drew level in the 45th minute through Saunda Soulei, before Victor Mbaoma and Sharaf Eldin Shiboub found the back of the net in quick succession to seal a thrilling victory.

Yanga’s dream of winning the title was shattered by the defeat, despite being dumbed down as the favourites to qualify for the quarter finals.

The win for Rwanda’s military side APR now means they face defending champions Miandege, who beat KVZ SC 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time.

In the other game, Azam FC will take on Singide Fountain Gate FC of Tanzania in another quarterfinal match to be played on Monday January 8, 2024 at the New Amaan Complex.

Another match scheduled for today features Simba and Jamhuri at the same venue.

The Mapinduzi Cup is an annual football competition that commemorates the anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution, which ousted the British colonial forces.
