President Paul Kagame on Wednesday called for stronger efforts to attract private investment, increase exports and improve tourism as Rwanda seeks to strengthen its private sector and build a more resilient economy.

Kagame made the remarks during a board of directors meeting of RDB (Rwanda Development Board) at the agency’s headquarters in Kigali. The meeting focused on accelerating key RDB projects and advancing efforts to promote private investment, expand exports and improve the tourism sector.

Kagame stressed the importance of improving service delivery and making it easier for investors and entrepreneurs to operate in Rwanda without unnecessary obstacles.

The meeting brought together members of the RDB board, chaired by Itzhak Fisher, with Evelyn Kamagaju serving as vice chair.

Other members include Alice Nkulikiyinka, chief executive of Business Professionals Network Rwanda; Ivan Kagame, who works in investment and finance; Liban Soleman Abdi; Diane Karusisi, chief executive of Bank of Kigali; Eric Kacou; and Kassahun Kebede.

RDB is responsible for promoting investment, tourism and exports and helping investors access services needed to establish and operate businesses in Rwanda.

The focus on private investment, exports and tourism comes as Rwanda continues to seek greater private-sector participation in the economy and expand opportunities for businesses operating in the country.
